Abstract

Abstract The proliferation of digital media has fundamentally reshaped the modes and reach of religious communication, positioning digital da‘wah as a dynamic and rapidly evolving field. Within this context, the Arabic language occupies a pivotal role as the primary vehicle for conveying Islamic teachings, owing to its intrinsic connection with foundational religious texts. This study critically examines the effectiveness of Arabic in digital da‘wah, while simultaneously addressing the linguistic and cultural challenges that emerge in engaging a diverse, global audience. Adopting a mixed-methods framework, the research combines qualitative content analysis of selected digital da‘wah outputs with quantitative assessment of audience engagement across major online platforms. Key parameters, including accessibility, interpretive clarity, engagement patterns, and transnational reach, are systematically evaluated. The findings reveal a nuanced tension: while the use of Arabic enhances theological precision and preserves doctrinal authenticity, it may also limit inclusivity and comprehension among non-Arabic-speaking audiences, thereby constraining broader dissemination. The study further identifies adaptive strategies that mediate this tension, such as multilingual subtitling, contextual translation, and the strategic blending of Arabic with local languages. These approaches are shown to significantly improve audience engagement without diluting core religious meanings. In addition, the influence of platform algorithms, visual communication styles, and digitally native preachers is highlighted as a critical factor in amplifying the reach and resonance of Arabic-based da‘wah initiatives. By situating language at the intersection of religion, technology, and global communication, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of how linguistic choices shape the effectiveness of contemporary da‘wah practices.
